Amidst the sea of fairly terrible ghost-written autobiographies there are actually a number of excellently written books about sport (and we expect you've probably read most of them already). If not, the William Hill Sports Book of the Year is a good place to start (for predominantly UK-based writers) and Sports Illustrated published an American-dominated list of the 100 best sports books in 2002, but we're pretty fussy when it comes to sports books (some of the best of which have been written in recent times).
Whilst we appreciate that such a list is by its nature subjective, and we have chosen to limit ourselves in only recommending what we have had time to read, we hope the following list will act as something of a Sports Book Hall of Fame. We'll add new books as they become available (or as we read them) but only if we're willing to stake our reputation on their quality.
Where a book has been mentioned, alluded to, or reviewed in an article on Promise is the Siren you'll be able to link through to the article. We reckon the following are definitely worth a read and all are pretty readily available at your local bookstore, online, or (where they still exist) a library.
The Book of Basketball - Bill Simmons
The Blind Side - Michael Lewis
Inverting the Pyramid - Jonathan Wilson
Soccernomics - Simon Kuper and Stefan Szymanski
Moneyball - Michael Lewis
